A new report by the Government Accountability Office says there is a growing shortage of building material products as manufacturers scramble to meet the growing demand for building materials.
The GAO report released Tuesday shows that in 2013, the United States produced a total of 2.3 billion cubic yards of concrete and cement, and a total 7.5 billion cubic feet of cement.
About 1.6 billion cubic yard of steel was produced, while about 3.5 million tons of steel were produced in 2014.
About one-third of the 2.1 billion cubic foot of cement used in building construction was manufactured in 2013.
The report said that while manufacturers are ramping up production of concrete in order to meet rising demand, the number of materials used to build concrete is also declining.
The number of building building materials production has decreased over the last five years, the report said.
The demand for concrete has been increasing, and the supply of concrete is declining, GAO found.
In 2013, more than 9 million cubic yards (m3) of concrete were produced, and about 1.9 million m3 of cement was produced.
That is a decrease of about 8 percent.
The new report said there is also a supply problem.
In 2012, the U.S. produced about 3 million cubic feet (mcf) of cement per day.
Today, the average mcf of cement produced per day is about 5 mcf, and that is an increase of only about 5 percent.
It also found that in the last few years, there has been a drop in the number and quality of building concrete products being manufactured, the GAO said.
There is a significant demand for cement in the building construction industry, and there is no shortage of material for that demand, GAOC Executive Director Matthew Tully said.
“This is one of the biggest challenges in building materials and concrete construction because it’s a significant and growing demand, he said.
Tully noted that there has also been a growing demand in building and home building.
He said that, as the demand for materials in the construction industry continues to increase, the demand will continue to grow.
The problem is that concrete manufacturers are not making enough of it, he added.
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently issued a report that found that there are problems in the supply chain for building concrete, which includes manufacturing, handling, and transporting the materials.
In its report, the group said there are some structural problems in concrete manufacturing, including problems in mixing and molds.
The ASCE also said there were concerns that some concrete producers do not provide enough information about how the concrete is used.
The group called for increased transparency in the cement supply chain.
